Wildfire Impacts and Emergency Leave Entitlements

Dear PEA members,

We know that many of you are being impacted by the wildfires affecting communities where you live and work. We recognize that this is an incredibly stressful and uncertain time, particularly for those who are facing evacuation orders or alerts, concerns about family, pets and homes, or disruptions to travel and access to your workplace.

Please take care of yourselves and your families first. Your safety and well-being are the priority.

We would also like to remind members of your rights under the Collective Agreement. Members who are:

  • Under an evacuation order are entitled to one day of paid leave; and
  • Under an evacuation alert are entitled to one day of paid leave.

If you are affected by an evacuation order or alert and believe you may need to access this leave, please follow the applicable workplace notification procedures and contact the PEA should you have any questions or concerns about your entitlement.

We understand that circumstances may change quickly as wildfire conditions evolve. If you are experiencing difficulties getting to work, accessing leave, or communicating with your employer due to the fires, please reach out to me directly. Your union is here to support you and will continue to advocate for members during this challenging time.

Please stay safe, follow the direction of emergency authorities, and take the time you need to look after yourself and those close to you.

In solidarity,

Rhiannon Bray
Labour Relations Representative
