UVic LRO Update

Dear PEA members,

We would like to inform you of upcoming changes to your PEA Labour Relations Officer (LRO) support team.

Stephen Portman will be joining the PEA on January 6, 2025, as the new Labour Relations Officer for the UVic chapter. Stephen was previously a union representative for the United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW Canada) and a Legal Advocate for the Together Against Poverty Society. He has a great depth of experience within the union movement, received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at UVic and completed a Fellowship in Global Journalism in the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto.

Sam Montgomery is transitioning to a part-time role and will be helping to onboard Stephen in January. She has also accepted a teaching position at the University of Toronto and the PEA and the UVic Executive thank her for more than eight years of outstanding service. Sam is an exceptional union leader who has tirelessly advocated for our members and her passion and commitment to the labour movement have made a lasting impact at UVic.

There will be a good period of overlap between Sam and Stephen but until he starts, please continue to reach out to Sam for any servicing needs.
