Stand with Workers – Support the Canadian Union of Postal Workers
Dear PEA members,
As workers and union members, we know the power of solidarity in the fight for fair wages, better working conditions, and workers’ rights. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are on the picket line, fighting for a fair contract.
Did you know that CUPW are the reason why we now have paid maternity leave? It was won for their workers in 1981 after they had been on strike for 42 days. As a result of their strength, other unions were able to get the same gain, and the government institutionalized and expanded maternity shortly after. Their fight is our fight, and they need our support. Here’s why:
- Solidarity is Strength: When workers unite, we send a powerful message that we stand together in the struggle for justice and fairness in the workplace. Supporting CUPW members is a way to show that we are all in this fight together.
- Defending Workers’ Rights: The issues CUPW is fighting for affect all of us. Fair wages, safe working conditions, and the preservation of jobs are universal goals that benefit all workers, regardless of sector or industry.
- It’s Our Fight Too: We’ve seen time and time again that when one union wins, we all win. By showing up in support of CUPW, we help strengthen the broader labor movement and ensure our own rights and protections are also defended.
CUPW currently has hundreds of picket lines across the country, you can see the major picket locations listed HERE or contact your local labour council to find out when rallies are planned to support these workers.
Your presence on the picket line—whether it’s to bring some food, deliver a message of solidarity, or simply show up and stand in support—can make a real difference.
In solidarity,
Dwayne Anderson
