Professional Employees Association Welcomes Workers at SGS AXYS

November 23, 2023 (Victoria) – Workers at SGS AXYS are joining the Professional Employees Association (PEA), a labour union for professionals.

“By joining the Professional Employees Association, workers at SGS AXYS have taken a powerful step to creating a fair working environment and winning decent wages,” said PEA Executive Director Scott McCannell. “We are thrilled to welcome them to the PEA, and look forward to working with the employer to negotiate a strong first collective agreement.”

SGS AXYS Analytical Services is a trace organics laboratory specializing in pollutants and contaminants analysis, based in Sidney, B.C. The lab is part of SGS, a Swiss multinational company headquartered in Geneva. The approximately 95 new members at SGS AXYS include instrumental analysts, chemists, lab analysts, project managers, data reporters, scientists, technicians, and operations coordinators.

The newest members of PEA joined the union following months of organizing, meetings, and discussion, leading to an overwhelming majority signing membership cards. They will begin bargaining shortly to secure a first collective agreement with improved working conditions, wages and a real voice in the workplace.
