PEA-UVic Appointments and Employer Response on Accommodations
Dear PEA members,
I hope you had the opportunity to rest and connect with family and loved ones over the long weekend, it’s great to see Spring in full bloom.
We are pleased to report that your chapter has made some fresh appointments:
- Lukasz Krawczyk – Local Representative (Saunders & Saunders Annex)
- Bradley Wells – Local Representative (Ocean Networks Canada – Marine Technology Centre)
- Selena Martin – Ombudsperson Advisory Council
Our thanks to everyone who put their hand up and if you weren’t selected, please keep your eye open for future opportunities.
We received a response from the employer to our cross-campus accommodation advocacy letter. Unfortunately, the response wasn’t nearly what we were hoping for. The employer didn’t guarantee a seat at the table to the PEA or any of the other Unions to help guide and plan improvements in accommodations. And they did not give a guarantee regarding increased investments in this underfunded area. While we are disappointed by the response, we remain undeterred and will continue to fight for this matter to get the serious attention it deserves. We will keep you posted on the next steps.
Many thanks to the historic number of you who RSVP’d to our upcoming 30th anniversary party. We are happy to say that the event is fully booked. We look forward to celebrating the past, present and future of the PEA UVic Chapter at the University Club on June 4.
And finally, a shout out to all of you who made it to the PEA Coffee Talk on April 29 and to the Faculty Association Rally to show some solidarity for International Worker’s Day on May 1. The momentum being shown as we ramp up bargaining has been incredible.
Keep an eye on your inbox for more updates on bargaining.
In solidarity,
Stephen Portman
