The Sixteenth Main Collective agreement between the Professional Employees Association (PEA) and the Government of the Province of British Columbia expires March 31, 2022.
Your elected Government Licensed Professionals (GLP) chapter executives members are preparing for this upcoming round of bargaining. It is time to form the Bargaining Committee that will represent members of the Government Licensed Professionals chapter at the bargaining table. Your chapter executive has updated the policy regarding the formation of the bargaining committee to ensure that the process is both democratic and representative of our members in terms of licensed professions, geographic locations, genders and years of service.
The Bargaining Committee will be made up of seven members (previously six). The additional member will come from the elected chapter executive to ensure that there is a connection between the bargaining committee and the executive. The seventh member will also ensure that in the event the bargaining committee is unable to reach consensus on an issue and a vote is required, a majority (e.g., four versus three) can be achieved.
The time commitment for members of the Bargaining Committee is significant (e.g., three days/month for one year or more). Meetings may take place virtually or in person in Victoria. Union leave is provided.
Committee members will develop the membership bargaining survey, assist in developing proposals, meet with representatives of the employer, report back to members on progress of the committee and make recommendations for action (e.g., propose to ratify the contract, take a strike vote, etc.).
If more than six members respond to the call for candidates, an online election will take place in April. Only the names of the seven members of the bargaining committee will be announced.
We recognize and appreciate the commitment involved in serving the members as a representative on the bargaining committee.
Thank you for submitting the Candidate Profile Forms. The deadline was midnight on April 1. View the full Contract Bargaining Policy below.
