PEA Welcomes Teachers at Pearson College

June 22, 2023 (Victoria) – Teachers at Pearson College are joining the Professional Employees Association (PEA), BC’s labour union for professionals.

“We are thrilled to welcome the teachers at Pearson College,” said PEA Executive Director Scott McCannell. “Joining the PEA strengthens their collective voice and will help achieve fairness in the workplace. We look forward to working with the employer to negotiate a strong first collective agreement and building a positive working relationship.”

Pearson College is a two-year pre-university school in Metchosin, BC, one of 18 schools and colleges in the United World Colleges movement. The 24 new members at Pearson College teach a range of subjects, including climate action, biology, chemistry, English, philosophy, French, history, mathematics, physics, and Spanish.

The newest members of PEA joined the union after an overwhelming majority of teachers signed membership cards. The Labour Relations Board issued the certification order on June 21, 2023. These professionals join a growing list of education workers who are members of PEA, including those at St. Margaret’s School in Victoria and the University of Victoria.
