Media Release: PEA escalates strike further with key ministries now on strike across the province
October 9, 2025 (Victoria) – All Government Licensed Professionals represented by the Professional Employees Association (PEA) in the following ministries are now on strike across the province:
- Attorney General;
- Health;
- Mining and Critical Minerals;
- Transportation and Transit; and
- Water, Land and Resource Stewardship.
With this escalation, more than 1,000 people from the BC public service’s professional workforce, who provide environmental, technical, legal, and scientific expertise that supports public safety, environmental protection, and infrastructure development, are now on picket lines across the province.
“Our members provide the expertise that keeps the public service running and the province safe,” said Melissa Moroz, Executive Director of the PEA and lead negotiator. “They protect our drinking water, ensure our roads and bridges are safe, defend the public interest in court, and support responsible resource development. They deserve fair compensation and a government that values their expertise.”
“We’re calling on the BC government to invest in the public service so that the people of British Columbia can continue to rely on the professional expertise we need to sustain healthy communities, a safe environment, and a strong economy.”

The PEA entered bargaining with the Public Service Agency on May 27, 2025, but talks broke down after the government failed to address the union’s key issues, including wages, reimbursement of required licensing fees, and a commitment to reducing reliance on external contractors. On August 29, members voted in favour of a strike, issued 72-hour notice and began picketing alongside the BCGEU on September 2, 2025.
