Victoria PEA-BCGEU March and Rally: Monday, October 6
Dear PEA members,
The PEA-GLP bargaining committee is pushing on with job action, united with the BCGEU. We are planning to strike all work PEA and BCGEU work locations on Southern Vancouver Island on Monday, October 6. This will be a sharp escalation for us, with a 55% increase in the number of members on the picket lines totaling over 900 PEA members on strike.
The BCGEU has escalated its province-wide public service strike again today, with nearly 900 additional workers from 22 worksites joining the job action. This escalation includes over 20 more BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores as well as frontline staff from the Ministry of Environment and Parks; Children & Family Development; Energy and Climate Solutions; and Water, Land and Resource Stewardship. This means more than 17,000 BCGEU public service workers are now taking job action across BC.
If you encounter a picket line at your workplace, please do not cross it.
Victoria PEA-BCGEU March and Rally: Monday, October 6
On Monday, October 6, PEA and BCGEU members will unite for a march and rally for all public sector workers in downtown Victoria. The event is planned to coincide with the opening of BC’s government’s Legislative Assembly’s fall sitting. We are expecting thousands of workers to come together on this day. Invite your friends, your allies, and anyone who supports strong public services and unions.
If you are in Victoria or the surrounding area and are able to join the march and rally on your break or lunch, please come. The march will begin at 11:00 a.m. at 1810 Blanshard and will continue down Blanshard to the legislature. The rally speeches will begin at the legislature at 12:00 p.m.
