PEA Executive Director Retirement
After 14 fulfilling years as the PEA’s Executive Director (ED), I will be retiring this December 2024. It has truly been an honour and privilege to serve the PEA, and I have often remarked that my role as ED has been the best job I ever had.
I first joined the PEA as a Labour Relations Officer in 2010, servicing our UVic and SMS chapters. Later that year, I was appointed ED. Throughout my time, the most gratifying aspect of this job has been collaborating with our elected leaders, members, and my staff colleagues to chart a path that ensures the PEA remains a strong, inclusive, and member-focused union.
We have begun the process of recruiting for a new ED to lead the PEA. The official posting will be live next week, and I encourage you to share it with any experienced union advocates who may be a good fit. Our aim is to have the new ED in place this fall to facilitate a smooth transition and training period before my departure.
I am deeply grateful for the incredible opportunity I’ve had over the years at the PEA and for everything I’ve learned and been a part of. In the New Year, I’ll be taking some time to travel and spending as much time as possible out past the surf break in Jordan River.
In solidarity,
Scott McCannell
