PEA Retroactive Payments for Articling Students
Dear PEA members,
We are pleased to share that, with ratification of the new collective agreement, LSB articling students are now covered by the PEA 18th Main Collective Agreement. This means the following changes apply:
Wage Increases
Articling students will receive the same three per cent general wage increase as all GLP members, retroactive to April 1, 2025. They will also receive a further three per cent general wage increase effective April 1, 2026.
OSS Retro Pay
Articling students who are regular full-time employees will receive overtime, shift work and standby (OSS) pay retroactive to April 1, 2025. Under Article 15, this is special compensation of seven per cent of basic salary that regular full-time employees receive in lieu of direct compensation for all OSS.
Temporary articling students are auxiliary employees and are not eligible for OSS pay.
Benefits
Current articling students will be moved to the PEA benefit plan on July 1, 2026.
Dues
PEA dues are currently one per cent. Since articling students are covered by the collective agreement retroactive to April 1, 2025, dues will also be deducted retroactively to that date.
The retroactive dues will be deducted in one lump sum from the same paycheque that includes the retroactive OSS payment and general wage increases. This means the paycheque will include both retroactive earnings and the retroactive dues deduction.
Articling students who worked at any point between April 1, 2025, and now will receive any retroactive pay they are owed, including those who have since left the public service.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
