Federal Election 2025 Voting information
Dear PEA members,
As you are aware, the Canadian federal election is currently underway. Your union is committed to providing members with information on the election and promoting engagement in the political process. It is critical for members to be able to make an informed choice and to exercise their democratic rights.
The PEA’s vision is of a membership that guards and protects quality, professional public services that promote the economic, social and environmental well-being of communities. This vision guides the PEA’s work to engage and inform members about the importance of electoral politics and political action.
Voter Registration
If you haven’t registered to vote or if you are unsure of where you are registered to vote you can confirm with Elections Canada on their website. Electoral districts (also known as ridings or constituencies) are changing in this election. You can find your new district using this tool.
Cast your ballot
There will be many ways to vote in the federal election and the final day to vote is April 28, 2025, but you can vote in advance or vote by mail. Visit Elections Canada to learn more.
Vote in advance
You can vote on advance polling days on April 18-21, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Not all advance voting places are open every day of the advance voting period. Visit Election Canada’s Voter Information Service to find advance voting places and the dates they are open. You can vote at any advance voting place in the province.
Time off to vote
By law, everyone who is eligible to vote must have three consecutive hours to cast their vote on election day. If your hours of work do not allow for three consecutive hours to vote, your employer must give you time off. Your employer has the right to decide when the time off will be given. Please direct any questions to your supervisor or contact your PEA Labour Relations Officer.
Resisting disinformation during an election
The Government of Canada has created a short resource on defending against disinformation shared online during the election period, which includes tips on how to recognize examples, information on how it is created and spreads, and links to fact-checking resources. You can view the resource at this link.
More information for members
A May 2024 member survey showed that 72 percent of members would find it helpful to receive information from the PEA on how party platforms will impact the working environment of members. In the weeks that follow we will be including information about the party platforms as well as information about different ways to get involved and make your voice heard.
Best regards,
PEA Political Action Committee
