Expression of Interest – PEA Government Lawyers Subchapter Executive Vacant Position

Dear PEA members,

The Government Lawyers Subchapter (GLSC) was formed in response to Bill 5, which moved government lawyers into the PEA’s Government Licensed Professionals (GLP) bargaining unit.

The GLSC has an Executive of a maximum of five members who are lawyers and one non-lawyer GLP member who is appointed by the GLP Executive. The GLP Executive may also attend GLSC Executive meetings as needed.

The purposes of the GLSC Executive may include the following:

  • Advising on labour relations issues and grievances specific to lawyers
  • Assisting with onboarding and transition of new members
  • Gathering lawyer bargaining proposals
  • Advising the GLP Executive, other chapters, the Association Executive, and staff on lawyer-specific campaigns and other needs
  • Maintaining a Ministry dialogue process with staff support as appropriate and/or needed

Many thanks to Benson Cowan, who stepped down in 2024, for his contributions to the GLSC as well as the subsidiary bargaining team. The successful candidate will fill Benson’s empty GLSC seat and collaborate with fellow committee members to support the ongoing work of representing government lawyers.

The GLSC meets on an as-needed basis, and you can anticipate committing approximately 15 hours per month. Most meetings occur during work hours, with the union compensating the employer for your time. We are looking for someone who is willing to make a one-to-two-year commitment.

If you are interested in working alongside your colleagues, while also learning more about your union please follow this link to submit a brief statement outlining your interests and what you would bring to the role.

Should you have any questions or require further details, feel free to reach out to GLSC Chair, Micah Weintraub.

We appreciate your consideration and look forward to welcoming a dedicated member to this role.

Best regards,

Government Lawyers Subchapter Executive
