Defending the PEA’s Vision During Uncertain Times

Dear PEA members,

Our vision is a future where professional expertise is valued, worker rights are protected, and public services thrive. This is achieved through our members, who are dedicated to strengthening the economic, social, and environmental well-being of our communities. Our vision is being put to the test.

The U.S. President’s tariff war threatens workers, brings great uncertainty, and is shaping our economy in a way we have never experienced. Compelling arguments and research papers will not secure our next round of collective agreements—only solidarity and an organized and engaged membership will.

For over 50 years, the PEA has defended public services and the rights of professionals. We will not back down now. In uncertain times, our greatest strength is solidarity. Together, we must push back against any austerity cuts that harm our members and communities. Although we acknowledge that the BC Government is under real fiscal pressure, they must protect workers and their rights.

Today marks budget day in British Columbia, and we will be watching closely. We will be ready to fight against any measures that threaten worker rights and public services. To our members in inequity experiencing groups, you are not alone. Our union remains unwavering in its commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We will keep you informed in the coming weeks on actions you can take. For now, consider signing the BCFED’s petition to provincial and federal politicians that calls for the prioritization of jobs and the protection of workers. https://action.bcfed.ca/tariffs

In solidarity,

Melissa Moroz
Executive Director
