2020 GLP Update
Dear GLP members,
With the end of 2020 in sight, I wanted to give an update on some of the changes that have happened these past few months and some of the new year plans.
New GLP Chapter Chair & 2021 Priorities
At the GLP Executive meeting last week, Christine Bieber was appointed as the new GLP Chapter Chair. Christine is a geoscientist who works in Victoria. She was the chair of the GLP Bargaining team, a member of the Executive and is also the chair of the union’s scientific integrity committee. Christine is very knowledgeable of GLP priorities and is well-positioned as the new Chair to advance the chapter.
The 2020 Evidence for Democracy survey has been instrumental in helping the GLP Executive understand the areas that require focus and improvement. With the new government in place, we will be requesting Minister meetings to communicate member priorities and find collaborative solutions. We will also be advancing goals on several joint committees.
Thank you, Sam Davis
We wish Sam Davis all the best with his retirement from the FLNRORD this past November. Sam has given a lot in his roles as chapter chair for the GLP for the past four years and as a long-time local rep and member of the PEA Executive, and in his work as the Indigenous Relations Liaison, BC Timber Sales for the Cariboo-Chilcotin.
Get Social for Scientists
Paul van Westendorp, BC’s apiarist, is featured in the latest edition of The Professional, sharing his recent work to protect the province from threats like the Asian Giant Hornet. If you follow the PEA on Facebook or Twitter, please share the video featuring Paul and help get the word out that we need the important work of our public scientists more than ever.

Thank You Local Reps
This year has been unlike any other and we have relied on our local reps to help support our members throughout the province. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time and energy to this role, we appreciate everything you do for the chapter.
Wishing everyone a safe holiday season.
