BCER Bargaining Update
Dear PEA members,
An update on your collective agreement
A quick reminder that your collective agreement expired on June 30, 2025. However, all terms and conditions continue to apply until a new collective agreement is negotiated and ratified. Under the Labour Relations Code of British Columbia, unionized employees remain protected by the terms of their expired collective agreement. This means that even though your agreement has expired, you will continue to receive your current wages, benefits, and entitlements until a new agreement is reached.
In public sector bargaining, it’s normal for a new agreement to be finalized after the previous one has officially expired. When that happens, the PEA will seek retroactive application of wage and other monetary increases negotiated in the new agreement.
What’s ahead for BCER bargaining
As many of you know, the GLP Chapter, which typically bargains before BCER Chapter, is set to return to the table with the Employer in July and August 2025. They’re working closely with other public sector unions to strengthen our collective bargaining power and align with the PEA’s overall priorities.
I will continue to keep you updated as we move forward. In the coming months, we’ll begin preparing for bargaining with a member survey to hear your bargaining proposals and priorities. Your perspective will help shape our approach at the table.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
In solidarity,
Idil Farah
Labour Relations Officer
