Call for Candidates for the GLP Bargaining Committee

The Seventeenth Main Collective Agreement between the Professional Employees Association (PEA) and the Government of the Province of British Columbia expires March 31, 2025.  Your elected Government Licensed Professionals (GLP) and Government Lawyers Sub-Chapter (GLSC) executives have been meeting to plan and prepare for this upcoming round of bargaining.

GLP Bargaining Committee

It is time to elect the Bargaining Committee that will represent all members of the GLP chapter at the bargaining table.

Your GLP chapter executive with the support of the GLP policy committee and the GLSC chapter executive has revised the policy regarding the formation of the bargaining committee to ensure that the process is both democratic and representative of our members in terms of licensed professions.

The GLP Bargaining Committee will be made up of seven members with a maximum of two members from any one licensed professional group (e.g., maximum two foresters, two engineers, two lawyers, etc.). A minimum of one lawyer will be on the bargaining committee for the negotiations of the 18th Main Collective Agreement to assist with the transition of lawyers into the bargaining unit. View the full Contract Bargaining Committee Policy (login required at pea.org).

Note that GLP bargaining is in addition to the GLSC subsidiary bargaining that is happening now and is ongoing.

The time commitment for members of the Bargaining Committee is significant (e.g., three days/month for one year). Meetings may take place virtually or in person in Victoria. Paid union leave is provided. The PEA will work to provide support to committee members so they can participate fully on the committee. Please contact us with questions.

Committee members will develop the membership bargaining survey, assist in developing proposals, meet with representatives of the employer, report back to members on progress of the committee and make recommendations for action (e.g., propose to ratify the contract, take a strike vote, etc.).

Please check your email for a link to the Candidate Profile Form. The deadline for Candidate Profile Form is 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on April 5, 2024.

If more than seven members respond to the call for candidates, an online election will take place April 8 to 17, 2024.

We recognize and appreciate the commitment involved in serving the members as a representative on the bargaining committee.

For more information, please do not hesitate to contact any member of your GLP executive, the GLSC executive or PEA staff.
